Mary Lou's Story
I was a transplant to Miami from Gainesville in 1963. I can't say that my roots grew very deeply in Miami, even though I had lived there as a little girl before our family ever went to Gainesville.
I was headed to UF after Palmetto, but took an unusual detour, marrying my best friend and true love the day after graduation. What a journey we have had since then! Soon I found myself a Navy officer's wife, living first in Newport RI and next in the Panama Canal Zone. Panama was fascinating. There we learned to enjoy gardening, birdwatching, hiking. In 1970 we returned to the states, moving to a little cottage on a lake in Waldo (near Gainesville) and going to UF. Hubby graduated from the UF law school. My education was cut short when we had our first child in 1972.
We still live on the same property after all these years. I have been very active in the horse world - riding, training and now breeding Hanoverians. We have both been active in the Gainesville community. Lately we have become grandparents. We have had quite an interesting journey over many years and feel very grateful for every minute.
